In addition to pride of ownership, the aristocratic Japanese Koi bring an animated beauty to the clear water in your garden. In addition these variegated swimmers perform a number of chores for free! They scavenge the bottom of your pond, clean excess algae and reduce the amount of insects that skim the water surface. These ornamental fish have been selectively bred for hundreds of years creating exotic mixtures of metallic golds, coal black, brilliant reds, yellows, and blues.
Shubunkin - Sometimes called speckled or harlequin goldfish, have transparent scales and vibrant colors. "Blue" shubunkins are a favorite with our customers and are deemed by some to be as beautiful as Japanese Koi. They are winter hardy and fast swimmers, needing a fairly large area to remain happy campers.
Sarasa Comet - Distinguishable by a combination of brilliant red markings on a white background. They are winter hardy brightly colored and quite tolerant of less than perfect water conditions (see our pH testing kit).
Japanese Fantail - Bright orange / red in color combined with a pearly hued body. Distinguished by a rounded body and double forked tail this is a lovely addition to all ponds. These are not winter hardy in colder climates and should be removed to aquariums for overwintering.
Butterfly Koi - Your Butterfly Koi will be the most elegant fish in your pond. Amazingly long flowing fins and tail. Winter hardy if water depths are three feet and/or de-icers are used. Good water quality and a little consideration will provide you with years of companionship and yes you will be giving your fish names. In time they will be eating out of your hands. Waterford Gardens offers a full range of Koi. Our qualified staff is able to assist you in selecting the Koi that best fit your pond in color and hardiness. All Rights Reserved, 1998.
